Four adjustable traction pins per side add extra grip when you’re not clipped in, and the reinforced outer cage helps protect the SPD mechanism from rock strikes. Shimano has also updated the bearing seals to improve durability and keep out grit for smoother, longer-lasting performance. One of the biggest upgrades is the new CL-MT001 SPD cleat design, which allows multi-directional entry — toe-first, heel-first, or straight down — while remaining fully compatible with existing SPD pedals and shoes.
